Mary Kate Cameron, DVM

kate_horse_small.JPG (18234 bytes)Mary Kate Cameron, DVM graduated with honors from the Veterinary School at the University of California, Davis in 1982. She has been a small animal practitioner ever since. Before opening Cameron Veterinary Hospital in 1999 her employment as an associate veterinarian lasted nearly ten years. She is continually immersed in continuing education, and has been a member of the California Academy of Veterinary Medicine (the voluntary association recognizing excellence in CE) for many years. Her special interests include internal medicine and endocrinology, geriatrics, and unusual pets, such as rats, guinea pigs, ferrets, prairie dogs, hedgehogs. Her exceptional rapport with patients and her tireless willingness to explain disease entities and health issues to clients has won Dr. Cameron an extremely large and faithful clientele.

Kate graduated from Colorado State University in 1975 with a degree in Zoology and emphasis in counseling psychology and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. Before being accepted to veterinary school, Kate worked as a veterinary assistant at a small animal practice in southern California, where she observed the caring attitude of her employer toward his clients and learned his strong animal advocacy.  She also worked for three years at the National Association for Veterinary Acupuncture.  After obtaining her DVM degree, Dr. Cameron worked in San Carlos, at a busy practice where the owner-manager was rarely on the premises; this was an excellent opportunity to learn independence and self-confidence. After two years, an unusual opportunity arose to help open a veterinary clinic in a new shopping center in Pleasanton. Dr. Cameron helped set up the brand new clinic, from equipment installation to advertising and promotion.  Then a veterinary position became available in Cupertino, approximately ½ mile from her home. Three years at this clinic enabled Dr. Cameron to polish her communication skills and develop her strong belief in the value of continuity of care. In 1989 Dr. Cameron became an associate at Serra Veterinary Hospital in Sunnyvale. At that practice, she has had the opportunity to have long-term associations with clients.  Dr. Cameron and her family have deep roots in the Sunnyvale-Cupertino community.
